Brownie is the New Black

Don't get me wrong; jadore a good boxed brownie mix. It's yumminess, in a pinch.  And I can look like a superhero on a snow day😉 when I serve the kids "homemade baked goods".  But, these from scratch brownies are rock star status. They're easy so I will double or triple to freeze. They are fudgey and full of chocolate chunks. I love a textured brownie, and I love a slightly mushy inside. I love melting the chocolate 🍫on the stove top, I feel like a true confectioner. These babies are always met with applause. Proceed with caution: they're insanely addictive.

My family goes crazy for them, and their reaction makes the extra steps totes worth it. Serve warm with your favorite ice cream in a brownie sundae for extra deliciousness🍨. Drizzle the top with caramel sauce, dust with powdered sugar, or simply enjoy them as is. Sorry, Duncan Hines, you've just been permanently replaced😘

It's terrific to proudly serve a more complicated dessert that required hours of concentration and precision, but sometimes you can't beat a classic. Don't mess with perfection. There's no one who doesn't like a great brownie, and if you've found that one person, throw them the hell out. Chocolate before both bros AND ho's. 🍫🍫🍫

ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 5 oz. unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips, semisweet
chocolate chips, peanut butter chips or
      white chocolate chips.

Directions

Preheat an oven to 350°F.  Grease the baking dish with butter.

In a saucepan over low heat, combine the butter and chocolate. Heat, stirring often, until melted. Remove from the heat and let cool.

Once cooled, stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Add the eggs and sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir until just blended.

Pour the batter into the prepared dish and spread evenly.  Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out almost completely clean, about 30 minutes (longer if using a metal pan). Do not overbake. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and let cool completely. Cut into 2 1/2-inch squares.

Enjoy!
